Carnal Christians and Spiritual Christians

by: April D. Byrd

photo credit: Derek Blanks, original post by Caroline Martin

There are two kinds of Christians, and you have to choose which one you will be. Will you be a carnal Christian or a spiritual Christian?

A carnal Christian is a people-pleaser who cares more about what people think than about obeying God. They are immature, operating out of their emotions and doing whatever they feel like saying and doing. They are usually in strife, discontent, easily offended and lacking peace, Help me/ us lord.

There are far too many Christians living this way today. But you and I can be different.

You can be a spiritual Christian who diligently follows after the desires of the Spirit. You can be that Christian who will feed their spirit with the Word every day. You/ I can be the Christian who will let God into every area of your life, not just church on Sundays.
I urge you today to make a full-time commitment to follow Christ. Let the Lord into everything you do. Walk with integrity, humility and peace. Get along with others. Display the fruit of a spiritual Christian and enjoy the favor of God.

Make the choice today. Will you be a carnal Christian or a spiritual Christian?

Prayer Starter: God, I don't want to be a carnal Christian, always led by the flesh. Instead, I want to be led by the Holy Spirit, living a life that pleases You. I choose today to be a spiritual Christian, not a carnal one. Amen.

The Help You Don't See

Fresh Perspective
In life we all have issues, and our own detailed problematic history, of course if we're smart we credit all of it for making us stronger. But sometimes its so easy to see what went wrong, that we don't see what went right. My story in particular is that I was an orphan and I felt I was never really loved or taken care of, but one day after hearing a certain quote, I thought  "well what about all the hands that held me and gave me support when I was too young to know what was going on?"

I'm here, I never had any complications at birth meaning none of the doctors or nurses who passed me along dropped me or anything. It might sound silly, but sometimes its easy to take little things for granted. Actually I've been blessed for as long as I can remember. I did hear a story that my own mother left me on a bus stop bench, I was taken up by a young couple, featured on the evening news and returned safely back home to my grandmother. I may sound like Blanche Dubois, but even now the help and kindness from generous strangers never ceases to amaze me.

In our trials and our trouble there is help we often take for granted or just don't see, and it's in more than just our faith, it's so practical that it can be easy to miss. It's important to be thankful everyday, because we never know all the things we have been protected from, and all the good will that comes our way even if we don't think much of it, for being to focused on what's going wrong.

So here is an official thank you, to all the angels and the saints in the world that helped me, to all the good people who work smart, study hard, and do their jobs with excellence Here's to you!! Thank you for everything! May the eyes of favor, honor, and riches continually look on upon you.

When we operate in purpose and in goodwill our lives are protected even beyond what we can see. So rise with an attitude of gratitude toward God, keep your eyes on the prize and go forward in the blessing. Regardless of everything else when we focus on favor, it's the favor that comes.

Be Blessed.

BOLD Testimony: Tyese Knighten

When Tyese Knighten was having near fatal health issues with her heart, like most people she was probably worried, but she never panicked. It was her faith and a sure scriptural promise that kept Tyese strong. The message of Isaiah 53:5 became Tyese's philosophy and the mantra she held on to.

Tyese Knighten
There was also a recurring word in the form of song that played as more than a coincidence whenever she got worried or wanted to give in, but because of her faith in God's words to her Tyese never gave up.

She attributes her good news and healing to believing in God and His word. As the one who manifests His healing power when we let Him  take the lead,  Tyese reminds us to believe, have faith, and "Let Go", Originally inspired in August 2011. Here is Tyese Knighten's bold testimony in her own words:

                                                                       Let Go
About 3 weeks ago, I went to urgent care because I had been having chests pain for 5 days. While there, the nurse administered an EKG. Moments later, the doctor rushed in and explained that the EKG came back abnormal and ran down all this stuff that could be wrong. By now, I am crying so hard, I can't even see the doctor anymore. The next thing I know, a nurse is running in with nitroglycerin and aspirin. I hear the doctor shouting to the nurse to get me a cardiologist appointment "NOW!" As I am sitting there, all types of things are running through my head like, "Who will take care of my son if something happens to me, etc." The nurse comes in with the info for the cardiologist and the doctor tell me, "Not to worry. It's nothing that can't be fixed." "Don't worry? Really?

Before I went to the cardiologist, I called my mother hysterical and when I could finally get the words out, I said, "The doctor said...." My mom shouted, "STOP! Don't SAY anything! There is NOTHING wrong with you. Keep repeating to yourself, "By his stripes, I am healed." It's funny thinking back, how hearing those words calmed d me down immediately. All the way to the doctor, I kept repeating, "By his stripes, I am healed. By his stripes, I am healed." I said it over and over again as I waited in the waiting room and as I took another EKG. The results were the same.

Over the last couple of weeks, I have taken all kinds tests. I have had ultrasounds, some machine that looks like a MRI machine take pictures of my heart. I have been injected with all kinds of stuff and have been stuck with more needles than one should see in their lifetime. During this time, I have carried on like nothing was wrong. I did not let the thought of those tests results consume me. I was still having chest pains and through it all, my mantra became, "By his stripes, I am healed." I went to church and had the preacher pray for me. I put my offering envelope on the alter with "healing in my body" written on the back. I started walking every morning with gospel music playing on Pandora radio and every time I wanted to give up and not walk, Dwayne Woods' song," Let Go" would come on and I mean EVERY time! "...As soon as I stopped worrying, worrying how the story end... I let go and I let God, let God have his way and that's when things start happening..."

If you have talked to me during this time, some of you knew what was going on, but I never confessed out of my mouth what the doctor said was wrong with my heart. I didn't stay locked in the house crying asking God, "Why me?" I didn't skip a beat because I let go and let God. I didn't worry. I didn't stress. I KNEW nothing was wrong with me. I KNEW that the devil was a liar and that God was not going to let me go out like that.

True to his word, today the doctor called me today with the results and there is NOTHING wrong with my heart. Thank you, Jesus! The reason why I am sharing this is because I have several friends, many who I know will be reading this, who are going through some things. Some may be health issues, some financial issues, relationship issues or they may be tired of their job and want to quit. You have to let go and let God. You have been trying to do it on your own. You have seen doctor after doctor, seen counselors, put in applications...you have done all you can. Now, you have to let go, let God and BELIEVE that he will do for you what you are asking. I am not the a "holy holy" person, I don't go to church every Sunday. I am not a saint BUT what I have always had was a belief in God and if you have that faith of a mustard seed, and believe in God, everything that you are going through WILL do a 360 degree turn and the victory will be yours.

Be blessed,

Ty

Where the Good is

Everything you want is in God.

Sometimes we seek so many things on the outside of us that we forget we are already complete beings. We have everything we need inside of us to produce everything we want. Personal fulfillment starts in us and with us. Scripture says the Lord is my Shepard I shall not want in Psalms 23 verse 1.

Outside things don't fulfill us or bring us wealth, we are the producers of those things. We are creators and go-getters, and the creative spirit directly reflects the power of God inside of us. Honoring God's spirit causes even more creativity and fruitfulness than not acknowledging it.

This scripture really stood out to me yesterday in church:

"if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land." (2 Chronicles 7:14)

No matter what it is we're looking for there is nothing that we truly want that will come rightfully or abundantly outside of  the will of God, and honoring that will.

In our lives all we have is who we individually are, if who we are has no purpose then we can never be fulfilled in who we are. Good purpose is in God. No matter if you want to be powerful, rich or emulate someone you see on TV, true good  only comes in true authenticity. Everything we want boils down to honoring the purpose of our specific creation, by acknowledging and corresponding with the creator on a daily basis.

Without worship the waking up is not complete and if the waking up isn't complete, then the daily life isn't complete. So consider how many days a you go without worshipping, acknowledging, or engaging God, How incomplete you feel, or how useless your days seem. Also, notice when you do put God first and pray to Him how you get revelation and everything seems to line up right.

God is in everything good, and if everything good is what you want for your life, then line it up with His will. Give everything to God and you will always be fulfilled.

Happy Monday!

5 Ways To Break Away From Fear

Fear is a crippling emotion that keeps too many people in bondage from really moving forward in  following their dreams or pursuing their goals. When Christ who embodies the essence of love was lifted up, the bible says He lead captivity captive. "Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men." If we have gifts, and talents to use to empower the world then we definitely should, forsaking all fear, better yet the illusion of it. Fear is just:
(F)alse (E)vidence (A)ppearing (R)eal.  Here are 5 ways to destroy the illusion and get going anyway, from addicted2success. You have the talent and you have the skill so get in gear and ditch the fear:

Feel the fear and do it anyway

You might remember this title from the best selling book by Dr Susan Jeffers. In her book, Dr Jeffers talks about developing assertiveness and challenging our negative thought patterns. She also talks about how we can extend our comfort zone by taking risks. The message to be learned then is that the only way we can overcome our fears is by confronting them. Put your fear aside, and just do it.

Go beyond reason

I recently watched the film ‘Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close’. Following the movie, I was researching the events of 911 on the Internet, and I came across an article listing accounts of several people who were delayed on that fateful day. People lost their car keys, others were caught in traffic, one woman was late for work because she forgot to set her alarm, another man got stuck on the freeway because of an accident … the stories are endless.
Sometimes we’re not aware of the master plan, the grand design and it isn’t until some time has passed, when we reflect back, we possess an understanding of why we met someone, why we missed that train or that an unforeseen obstacle or delay was in fact a blessing in disguise or the universe conspiring. Call it destiny, serendipity but regardless, remember, there is always a reason why things happened, even if we’re not aware of it at the time.

Make a Bucket List

Write your goals and achieve them. Eight years ago my father was diagnosed with reflux. After a further year with no resolve, he decided to seek a second opinion. However, it was too late, the doctor diagnosed him with liver cancer which was in the advanced stages, and he was given 2 months to live. That was in November of 2004, by January the following year, he had passed. When my sisters and I were sorting through his papers, we came across a visa application for Burma. My father had left his home town 35 years ago and had always vowed to return. Have you heard the expression ‘too late she cried’? If my father had sought a second opinion sooner or not waited 35 years to return to Burma, perhaps this story would have a different ending. That holiday you’ve never had, the language class you never enrolled in, the friend you never made amends with, don’t find yourself saying, ‘I always wanted to … ‘ instead, write your bucket list and start planning your goals.

 Regrets

If you ever speak to those that are somewhat older and wiser, they will tell you that, in life, we usually regret the things we didn’t do, rather than the things we did. If you spend your life procrastinating, you will never know the outcome. And remember, no result is a negative one. It’s what you make of your experiences, every moment, every encounter shapes you, bringing you to the point in your life, you’re at now. A wise man once said,
“Many of us crucify ourselves between two thieves – regret for the past and fear of the future.”

Finding Obstacles

How many times have you found yourself making an excuse for why you haven’t done something? ‘It’s too hard … I’m too tired … I haven’t got time?’ Does that sound familiar? We are all perpetrators of that mind set at one time or another in our lives, however, successful people invest the time and effort even when they don’t feel like it. Successful people do things the things that others find difficult. They take calculated risks, they are accountable for their actions, they have initiative are motivated, passionate and encourage others. They weren’t born successful or ‘lucky’, they achieved their goals through determination, hard work and by being fearless, they have courage of their convictions. They find opportunities … not obstacles.

Be B.O.L.D, because where there is life there is love, and where there is love there is no fear. "There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love." (1 John 4:18)

Beyond Customer Service: Christ's POS

How does your spirit look to a deaf person?  How does your spirit sound to a blind person?

Christ's love is the greatest POS!
These questions came to mind recently, because It's easy to get caught up on looks and how things look on the outside, but what's really imporatant is the wholeness and beauty of our spirit. We are all created to give life and empower, but that's not possible with having a negative, beaten, or broken down spirit. Working in customer service I've experienced how easy it is to be in "presentational mode". Honestly, sometimes I get carried away in putting on a front of plastic cheerfulness almost like I'm apart of the merchandise on Wal-mart's shelf. Because I work there, there is a certain standard to be expected. However, I'm grateful that the standard of Christ's love is much more important.

What I've been getting in my spirit lately is that is not about what's going on on the outside, but what's going on, on the inside. Besides the items on the shelf there is a life that people really need to help them be empowered as well. To be a vessel of life for others and have a truly giving spirit thats where our blessing comes in.

Just like it's easy for customer service workers to feel like they need to be perfect in a way, it's easy for retail customers to have a bad attitude and feel entitled to talk down to someone else. It's weird, I have encountered flagrant disrespect lately by some costumers, thankfully I heard God's spirit over theirs. When people are rude like that it's natural to wanna be rude back to them and meet their attitude. In those moments I am grateful to God for  wisdom. What it takes to be a true leader is not judging others or holding grudges toward them because of their actions, but seeing them in all their mess, and loving them inspite of; also, loving them "because of". Hurting people don't need more hurt, they need love. And the true love of God in our hearts will give us the capacity and the strength to provide that.

Remember no matter what job you do or what field you are in, we are blessed by working for God. Sharing Christ's love is the (Point of sale). We should provide the best customer service to everyone we come in contact with, because in that lies our strength and our blessing. God always lifts us up to do the job we are called to do.

“The world makes way for the man who knows where he is going” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson

So at all times be led by the spirit of God and keep your eye on the prize. It's truly not about what's going on or how things look on the outside, but the consistency, wellness, and beauty in our spirit everyday. So give love and give life, In Christ you will always have it to give.

Be Blessed.

BOLD Testimony: Kathy Tucker

 Katherine Tucker's amazing grace.
Kathy Tucker lives in Griffin. I had the honor to meet at her and loved her spirit. Instantly I knew it was a familiar one: She loved the Lord. Before long she shared her testimony with me and the rest was history. Not just any history, but an amazing history of how through faith, she overcame a deadly illness.  The same doctor who initially gave her a bad diagnosis ended up proclaiming the miracle of the Lord with her and over her. I am blessed to have met this woman and I'm grateful to God for her sharing her awesome story with me and the world.

In Kathy's own words, this is her bold testimony:

My name is Katherine G. Tucker and around March 2nd 2012, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and I was totally devastated. Until you've heard the big C word you will never know what it does with a person’s mind and you know that disease is sent straight from hell to kill and destroy the person and take away someone that prays or just cause death and suffering. Many times Satan will  strike a praying person (if  God allows and remember Satan has to go through our father) and may God help those who don't have Jesus Christ and the praying saints for them who will saturate the prayer warrior in need of prayer to get them back on the field of war in praying once again.

Thank God I had Jesus Christ and the Griffin Center Point Church saints of God and the church of Jesus Christ as my prayer partners and may I remind you to those reading this that as I cry with tears of rejoicing what God has done for me. I had my surgery on the 14th of March and on the 23rd I received the results of the Surgical Pathology Report. With the MRI that I had around the 5th came back showing another cyst in my left breast and a 3rd one was found at the time of surgery but it showed my right breast was completely clear of any problems Praise God! I think the worst was expected and the doctor informed me when cyst are in one breast they will most likely be in the other...I threw my hands toward heaven and praised God right there because we don't serve a typical God who does typical things we serve a unique God that does the miraculous and prayer makes a difference. Our communication is with God.

The Dr. also said "That was a miracle within itself" with my right breast. The preparation before surgery was very painful. The Dr. informed me that the next time I came it would be a total mastectomy, but God makes all final decisions with His children. God is in control when we live for Him and when we pray and when we give ourselves to Him. Remember Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world. When my husband and I went for the results of the Surgical Pathology Report and the Dr. asked me do you want the good news and then she said it showed no residual ductile carcinoma in tissue, no invasive carcinoma. "You are cancer free." My husband was rejoicing with tears as he listened to the doctor with the wonderful news. We were both overjoyed with thanksgiving to God. She looked at me and told me to have a good weekend and looked at him through his tears and said "you will have a good weekend".  As a routine and because of insurance purposes I had to go then to a radiation oncology which told me “you don't need radiation" and most people she cannot say that to. In other words GOD intervened and I do not have cancer by GOD's mercy, grace, and goodness and all the prayers of the saints reaching GOD for me. God always has the last say so. God is our strong tower! I praise Him and only JESUS for all he has done for me yesterday, today, and forever!

It can be very scary, yep we are human, and God said "fear not for I am with thee" and He understands our tears, fears, and what we go through in this life. When we fear yet we will trust? Him only we can trust! GOD is our Shepard we shall not want, He maketh us lie down in green pastures and He restores. Jeremiah 30:17 reads “for I will restore health unto thee”. Ps. 91:14 -“because He hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver Him”. My sister called me every day and gave me a scripture and in the mornings and during the day I read and quoted healing scriptures. Ps 107:20 He sent His word and healed me. I value more now my sister Peggy and all my brothers and sisters in the Lord. The potter’s wheel is rough, tough and painful, but when you come off the potter’s wheel you might just be swimming in the wonderful spiritual waters of JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD AND SAVIOR and swimming in His waters, isn't that what we want?
