In Ezekiel Ch 4 God commands Ezekiel to "Lay siege" to Jerusalem. He tells Ezekiel everything like how many days he will be there and gives Him precise instructions of what to do on his stay there. Ezekiel is to bring food and do practically everything at a set time. The last instruction is the most outrageous of all. Ezekiel and the people will have to cook everything with the fuel of Human excrement, ill! That's pretty extreme. It's uniquely a form of symbolic punishment. In the end Ezekiel who probably would have had to do the same gets off the hook a little because He speaks up for himself:
14Then I said, “Not so, Sovereign Lord! I have never defiled myself. From my youth until now I have never eaten anything found dead or torn by wild animals. No unclean meat has ever entered my mouth.”
Whoa!! God continues to explain that Jerusalem's food supply will be scarce for a while... That ends Chapter 4.15“Very well,” he said, “I will let you bake your bread over cow manure instead of human excrement.”
What would you do in a situation like this? How often do you speak up for yourself? Share your thoughts and join us in the next edition of "Spread The Word" Continue along next time as we explore Ezekiel Chapter 5.
