Juanita Bynum Being Naked On Purpose

by: April D. Byrd

*Spoiler* I am not talking about being physically naked, but emotionally and spiritually undressed...Transparent. Sometimes in a culture so full of judgement it's hard to be naked and open with others. I am so proud of Juanita Bynum that she took that stand and was unafraid to come with all she had.

I just came by a twitter headline: "Juanita Bynum Confesses Sex with Women and Drug Use."  I love that she was open and honest. As expected social media is having a field day with this news. I came across one commentary that said: "When we fall down, we don't have to identify every branch we hit." I don't think this is accurate, because its imperative for us to get out everything that holds us . To expose it, so it has no more power and drop it quickly so we can move on. Unlike what that commentator had to say, I believe that identifying and breaking every branch further empowers us to destroy the root.

Juanita made the infamous confession on The Frank and Wanda morning show on V103. Besides all the ruckus the main point was  a powerful sentiment on the necessity of purpose. I say kudos to Juanita!! It takes a lot of guts to expose yourself to the public like that especially when you're in a position of respect and authority. I guess when she said "No More Sheets" she was for real.

What do you think about this issue? Do you think it was TMI just to sell more products? or do you agree with her? and would you ever do the same?

BOLD Testimony: LOLO JONES

LOLO Jones
From a background of poverty Track and Field star LOLO Jones rose to achieve her goals. She actively continues to pursue her dreams of being a winner.

Her story of strength in tribulation is inspiring for anyone who has goals. "I've always used my failures as motivation. It was natural because I'd seen my mom do it my whole life".

LOLO's story literally embodies what it means to fall and get back up. Continuing to maintain a character of tenacity and integrity within the spotlight, LOLO is steadily running for her goals. Her story inspires us to rise to the occasion and keep going no matter what. It is a reminder for all of us to keep pressing toward the mark of the high calling. "I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus."-(Philippians 3:14).

I am cheering for Ms. Jones as she continues to "run forward" in her journey. We all have a gift or talent that's able to take us to the next level and move us from one place to the next. This testimony reminds us to "keep fighting", that if we work hard for our goals and go for our dreams we will win. Our greatest power lies in us always moving forward no matter what. With our ability, in our very life's movement when we take bold initiative and keep going we will win. Let's continue to be bold and live B.O.L.D and ......."Let's Go LOLO!!!" *cheers*.

Music Monday: "Firework"

With commercials promoting her movie "Part of Me 3D" almost everywhere and it being  not too long after Independence day. This song "Firework" by Katy Perry can't help but stand out. The lyrics are awesome from start to finish.

I love the part where it says "Own The Night" it reflects how we should take charge and own not only the night, but our lives. This song is not only saying be a go-getter and take charge it's saying: you got everything it takes to do it! Awesomeness is inside of you, so let your light shine.

You don't have to feel like a wasted space
You're original, cannot be replaced
If you only knew what the future holds
After a hurricane comes a rainbow

Maybe your reason why all the doors are closed
So you could open one that leads you to the perfect road
Like a lightning bolt, your heart will glow
And when it's time, you'll know

You just gotta ignite the light, and let it shine
Just own the night like the 4th of July

'Cause baby you're a firework
Come on, show 'em what you're worth
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Most colored girls know the significance of a rainbow, but the promise and peace of the symbol is a comfort to all who behold it. Always go forward to claim the promise of your dream, be excellent, and leave the world in awe of the glory that is you.

The Declaration: R.I.P Cousin Allen

When somebody dies it always makes me wonder what am I doing with my life that's effective? How am I blessing someone else? This morning I heard that my cousin Allen passed away. The cause I don't know I was told they found him dead sitting on the porch. I feel so convicted at this time.

However, I don't always want life occurrences to shake me or be the reason I feel convicted, so I'm going to move forward and I'm not looking back. I'm going to be a blessing in the earth because God has given me life. I once heard the gospel singers Mary Mary say at an award show full of musicians that "if the material isn't touching or changing a life then it's not about anything" in so many words. The sentiment is so true. Everything we do should be worthwhile in life We shouldn't waste time with frivolous things.

My prayer to God today is for forgiveness. and my sincere condolences go out to his children, all my cousins. My prayer is that you guys remain strong at this time and have great faith. God is with you and love is on your side always. I love you and All of us are praying for you.

Officially, Standing Out

Brown girls naturally stand out! I love that part of myself and wholeheartedly embrace it. I guess now I'm taking standing out a step further with one of my new favorite sites. Lately I've started doing guest posts. Most recently with the site For Brown Girls. I'm  loving the "Meaningful Melodies" category it's a vehicle to share the lyrics of an inspirational or motivational song. Even though the songs are featured on For Brown Girls they have a positive message to motivate everyone. I will share and link the ones that are featured as I go.

The latest song that came to mind was "Stand Out" sung by Keke Palmer from the soundtrack to the movie "Rags" on Disney Channel. The song is relevant for everyone, no matter how old. It's about getting up breaking free from all the limits, but most of all yourself. With lyrics like:

"On this day, I'LL finally listen to what's been calling me all it takes is letting go of whatever people think of me... this way I'll stand out and break away to be free. Happiness is what I can't live without."
The song focuses on the accountability that belongs to yourself as an individual, to break free from your own defeating thoughts. Also, it's a motivational tune to make an impact in the world by standing out; Not following the status quo.  Sound familiar? "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will." (Romans 12:2)
It's about truly finding you, not just going with what's acceptable. That's definitely more of what we need in the world: Individuals who will be B.O.L.D and stand out in their positively progressive purpose.  Shout out to Keke, DarkChild, and everyone who help construct the beautiful song!
