Catalysts, Vessels, and Change Agents

I attended a "Christian Women In Media" networking event yesterday to spread the word about the Kingdomwood International Film Festival that I'm helping to produce. At the event I was sitting next to the moderator, so it was funny to see that during the "introduce yourself and what you do" period, the majority of the women who were there went on tangents about what divine coincidence it was that brought them to the meeting or gave testimonies about the why they were passionate to do what they do.

I laughed as the moderator tried to get them to be quick about their turn to introduce themselves, but after a while as the introductions continued in the same format of a longer "why" instead of a quick "what" and "who", I was inspired by it.

It was touching to see that the default mode for a room full of women who were believers was to explain the "why" behind what they did. I think knowing and understanding the "why" is the key to doing what we do with excellence and staying motivated to do it.

When it was my turn to go, although I said who I was and what I did very quickly, because of the moderator: what I would have loved to have said was: "I'm grateful because I believe that I'm a catalyst for GOD's voice, and a change agent and an agent & vessel of God's voice. So this is why I want to be involved with Kingdomwood, this is why I want to be involved with media and sharing my voice."

I think that would've been great for a "Christian Women In Media" event, but we're all catalysts of GOD's voice. I listened to the "Jesus and Jolloff" podcast for the first time and heard Yvonne Orji say her blessings are "not because she's so special, but because she's available." It's essential to make ourselves available to the will of GOD.

We are catalysts, we are agents, We are vessels of GOD and that's what this film festival brings about to me. It's why I believe in what I'm doing. It's why I'm happy about what I'm doing. Iyanla Vanzant shared a tweet that said:

"The key to success is not what you do, it is how you feel about what you are doing."

It's up to us to Boldly be a vessel for what GOD is doing in the earth. Orji also says in the podcast" Somebody is waiting for your supply, that they didn't even know they needed."

"We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same." - Marianne Williamson

It's up to us to know who we are and be consistent in how we present who we are to the world, but also to definitely know our why? Do you know your why?

How I Stopped Running Away From God's Calling

by: Paul Horne

I have to admit that I can be rather obsessive about numbers. Like how many followers I have on Twitter, or how many page views did the blog have today. That is not necessarily a good thing, because when I allow those things to rule my life it becomes a god thing. I personally do not want any other gods in my life other than my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Isn’t it easy though to allow functional saviors to enter lives? I know for me it can be, I cannot speak for anyone else. One thing I do know is that it can be destructive to our lives, because they can become all consuming. Where do you run if you are not running to the Lord? My guess is you are running to your functional savior, whether that is drinking, smoking (of either sort), writing, or even family. Yes I said it family can become a functional savior in our lives that will keep us from turning to God when we need to the most.

It is easy to try and discount that we are not running away from God, when in reality we are. You know I can think of one story in the Bible in particular when someone should have done what God wanted to do but instead he ran away. Can you think of who I am speaking about…? Times up! I am speaking about Jonah. God had given Jonah a plan of action that he wanted him to take and Jonah thinking that he was wiser than God proceeded to run away to the land of Tarshish (his functional savior). If you don’t know the story let me give you a brief synopsis. God tells Jonah that he wants him to go to he land of Ninevah to preach to the people there and Jonah decides he doesn’t want to do that. He boards a boat head to Tarshish. Along the way a great storm arose and the men on board the ship were afraid and began throwing their cargo overboard, until Jonah said that it was his fault. Then he has the men throw him overboard and the storm calms. While in the water Jonah is swallowed by a giant fish. And lives in its belly for 3 days. After that he is spit up on the the shore and goes and does what he should have initially done.

All of that to say when the Lord is our savior we should trust him and run to him, not away from him. He does not have plans to hurt us. While somethings may be unpleasant for us they are ultimately for our good.(Romans 8:28). So please if you feel the Lord pulling you in a particular direction do not run from him and make things harder on yourself go where he is leading it will be a blessing to you and those you are called to. I know there were times in my life I wanted to run away and not follow, it wasn’t until I got on the correct path that things started making sense. I would always run from my calling saying I couldn’t find a school to go to and earn my degree, then the Lord showed me an online school Liberty University which is where I completed my Bachelor’s in Religion and am now working on my Master’s of Divinity.

What do you need to stop running from?

Nothing You Go Through Or Have Experienced Is In Vain.

By: April D. Byrd

Very early this morning someone decided to message Breath Of Life Daily's Facebook page to say Jesus was not the truth... as normal and probably expected I threw my scriptures out there and said no thanks to whatever God the person was trying to offer. The person was nice enough in the end to stop taunting the page after no further response.

However, after the fact my spirit was uneasy. "Why do people have to make a big deal about it?" "Why is it something that needs to be debated over or disowned"? There is of course research that needs to be done to stand firmly in our faith. I do agree there. Anyway, I sat for a while in my car uninspired for my Wednesday run, in a bit of anger and contempt for the Jesus debate. I got out of the car and went running anyway.

not before I posted to the Facebook page:
The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because He has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free,
-Luke 4:18
I believe powerfully in spreading good news and message of love. This is the spirit I think on when I think of Jesus, I think of him as the embodiment of purpose, definitively, and for everyone. To be so strongly committed to a cause, that you're willing to give it all!

At times we're saved, we get inspiration and revelation from God, but there is opposition in the world. Life is a daily activity and suicide is an issue. A spirit of depression, being beat down, feeling devalued and useless does not have to consume lives.

When we're  "Saved"... and that's through Jesus, we know it and we feel it... the story doesn't end and in one shot we're happy, Life is a daily struggle. Daily inspiration is needed. I was wondering why. why do we have to suffer for following Jesus? why do we have to be persecuted because of him? before I got out of the car.

But as I was running I looked over and I saw a glimpse of a rainbow in the Lake's fountain God has a promise, a covenant with us and all the earth...( that means He's our Bestie!), I looked over there were two trees intertwined as if they were hugging, "I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." We are a body in Christ. then I looked up and saw birds flying freely in the air over my head. and heard "look at my creation." We shouldn't be worried for anything, but relaxed and at peace to just live. God's got us. Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

Overall I realized that It's not about focusing on who's against us, but the support we have behind us. that's where the life comes from. Go Forward keep running. As you do let your eyes be stayed on God's glory. God's goodness. the pure love offered through Jesus Christ. Keep running! Keep focused on God!

I believe these occurrences happen for a reason. Nothing we go through or experience is in vain.

I Am Janay Rice...

by: Ruthann Mckenzie

"...we call it domestic violence as if it is a domesticated cat.  It is the most vicious form of violence there is, because not only the physical scars are left, the psychological scars that are left" - VP Joe Biden

She's laying on the bed, curled in a ball. After their last fight she's experiencing severe contractions. Her daughter isn't due for another two months. She's crying. Now he consoles her, kissing her forehead and telling her to calm down. He's sorry. He was drunk and didn't mean anything he said when they got into an argument. Of course he loves her. Of course he wouldn't want anything to happen to his child. That is his blood and his DNA flowing through the unborn's veins. He'll change, he promised. He doesn't want his child to live without him and he won't allow it any other way. That's why earlier he would have rather killed them all rather than watch her walk away. But he promises that was just a scare tactic. Besides, she said some rather hurtful things too.  She should know he's doing the best he can, he's been through so much. The pain subsided in the morning and it was a better day. He cooked breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  He even went out in the cold to buy flowers.

Each morning he made the lunches. Each night after work he cooked the dinners. Each Saturday morning, they went as a family to church. On the outside they were adorable together. They received nothing but compliments on the love they seemed to share.  Yet on the inside she feared for her life. She was forcing a square peg and she knew it, but she stayed. She loved him. He loved her....Besides, she hit him too, he'd provoke, but she'd retaliate. She deserved what came during their fights. The baby was protected by the womb. Never mind, the umbilical cord wrapping around the fetus neck three time unbeknownst to her. Never mind the extreme stress and pressure it placed on the unborn child. That was the least of her concern.

This is not where the story begins though.  She came into this world that was already broken. Her first incident with domestic violence was at the age of three. The very first man she'd ever known to love had no real regards for the woman who carried her. She can still recall that night hearing her parents fight. She can still recall seeing how broken her mother was and not knowing what to do. She was three.  How would she know as an adult she would go through the same or have her child experience such tragedies?

I am Janay Rice. I am the countless women and men who have experienced fear in relationships.  Although I've left my abusers, yes multiple abusers, I'm no better than the next person. I have no greater worth than anyone else. We are all equal because we were created equal. We only share a common thread through the scarlet strain of violence. I am her. I also do not want to acknowledge it as being so serious. Yet, it is that serious.

With each story I read, with each news story I try to avoid listening to, I see my own story replaying. Writing this is not easy. It is a trauma that some of us endure in the warped view of love, not realizing love never will hurt. Perhaps I'm writing this from my heightened sense of sensitivity towards the situation. Nonetheless, more of us need to shine light on something painful in hopes to bring meaningful change. That change does not have to be legislation.  It can be education to those who are ignorant to the facts.  Most of all, it could be compassion and love to those who stay in the situation or who choose to leave.

Education on any subject leads to liberation. Yet, all the education cannot give you a crucial piece, compassion and love. There cannot be judgment as each situation is different. It is never okay to judge, especially when you are cyber bullying, that helps no one. Become educated and be compassionate.  This could be your life. This could be your daughter or son.

Here are a few facts in regards to domestic violence are as follows:

  • World wide, one in three women experience a form of domestic abuse.
  • Domestic abuse can include verbal, sexual, economic, emotional, and uses denial, blame, control, and isolation to manipulate the victim.
  • One in five men world wide also experience a form of domestic abuse. (This isn't just affecting women.)
  • Women are more likely to be victims of sexual and domestic abuse at the hands of a partner.
  • One in six women in America have been stalked.
  • One in five women have been raped.
  • One in four women in the US has been physically assaulted.
These are just a few of the many statistics for domestic and sexual violence. Some of the negative impacts of domestic and sexual violence includes; being fearful, one or more PTSD symptom, concern for safety, missing work, needing legal services, needing medical services, needing housing services.  I must admit, just watching the news broadcast play over again has evoked some symptoms of my post traumatic stress disorder (or PTSD).

Most of this happens prior to ones 25th birthday! The saddest thing is I have lived these experiences prior to my 25th birthday. The younger crowd experiences this and then have a warped idea of what is normal and how to enter into a healthy living relationship.

We cannot be naive and believe that violence will end magically. However speaking out and empowering all victims to realize they are victors is a start. Breaking the stigma and ignorance is a start. If this encourages one woman to know they are not alone, it was worth sharing my pain.  If it leads one more to being compassionate and not victimizing someone already mentally and verbally attacked, then it was worth reliving. You can be a light.  You can break free. There is hope and freedom in Christ and that can never be taken away. It is possible to receive help from others and it is possible to give a helping hand to those who need it most.

Execute The Vision God Gave You

"...Write the vision; make it plain on the tablets..." Habakkuk 2:2

It is time for us to wake up from our dreams and actually live it.  We all have dreams and potential goals, but we have kept putting them off for tomorrow.  Next time always turns into tomorrow, tomorrow into next week, and next week into next year. Before we know it, we are still in the same spot and are angry with all our excuses. Excuses are hindrance and lies we tell ourselves because we are scared.

Have you had a vision in your heart? This vision that your heart desires so deeply is not going to go away until you step in faith and walk BOLDly by faith to execute your vision. Most of us are running away from our calling and life purpose because it would involve us doing something we have never done before. Well, it is time to rise to the challenge set before us and put that vision God has placed on your heart to work.

When we take one step forward in the right direction, then God will take care of the rest. The vision I have for my life has always been to help empower others and teach. For years I listened to what others thought I should do instead of following through with my vision. With doing so, it only made me miserable because I was not executing my vision. Does this sound familiar in any way? If so, you need to make that first step boldly towards your vision.

Below are some points to remember when moving out of your comfort zone and executing your vision:

  • Have a clear defined plan and goal in place. Lack of planning will never result in anything. You do not have to over think each step and how each part will work out. However, you must make a plan and start somewhere and do something. As it states in Habakkuk 2:2, write the vision and make it plain! If you are waiting for tomorrow again to start this, then you have missed the point of executing your vision. Please wake up and make things happen. You will be happier once you start.
  • Do not downplay your vision that you have been given. God knows why He laid it upon your heart to do what you are dreaming of doing. If you are faithful and listening and know His voice you will know this vision is for a reason. Your vision could be interconnected with someone else. You do not need to know the full picture, just stand in faith of why God gave you the vision and execute it.
  • Stop making excuses! Just stop...no excuse is valid. When I began blogging I did not have a computer of my own. That did not let me off the hook with God in regards to the vision He gave to me. Blogging was a small step in the right direction of executing my vision. No excuse can get in the way of who God says you are and what He has called you to do. Use the resources that you have at hand and watch God work miracles in your life.
  • Quit believing that your vision is not important enough to help change others. If you are working according to the God's purpose and you are confident in yourself and the abilities that He's given you, then you will make an impact in others life's. Stop believing the lies you tell yourself that what you want to do is not important. No vision is too small or too grand in regards to importance.
  • Do not keep starting and stopping. Be committed and be consistent. When you start something then stop, you are delaying your true progress.  All that time you started and stopped, you could have built your vision into reality.
  • Lastly, stop trying to please people and start working on pleasing God. If you honestly think that those people telling you how to live your life and what your vision should be will help you when you fail, they won't. So follow your heart, follow your vision.  Sometimes we look to others to validate us or talk us out of things.  You will not have to look too hard to find someone who has broken dreams willing to tear down your own.  Continue to pursue God's heart in the matter of your vision instead of man's approval.

Change your thoughts and verbalize what you see in your mind until it comes to pass. Your thoughts and words have power, harness that power for good! Write down your vision and execute them. Believe that God gave you this vision and ultimately it will be used for His glory. So I implore of you today to EXECUTE YOUR VISION!

You will be happy that you did!

by: April D. Byrd

It was very exciting to be able to host the Alto Adjustment Screening at Back-2-School Park Jam presented by From Nothing To Something Productions. Testimony: Gabe Sonnier

All smiles in his new "Office".
Don't Underestimate The Power of Education and Good Work Ethic!! Joseph "Gabe" Sonnier used to clean up behind everyone at Port Barre Elementary in Port Barre, La.  The former janitor is NOW the principal at the same school. The journey to his promotion began in 1985 when  the former principal of Port-Barre pulled Sonnier aside, and said  "'I'd rather see you grading papers than picking them up,'" Sonnier told CBS News. Gabe said he took former Principal Wesley Jones Encouraging words to heart!
Sonnier  dropped out of Southern University in 1979, according to the Advocate. His mother, was a housekeeper, who struggled to support his four siblings and pay for his education, so Sonnier began working to help. But at the age of 39, while still working as a janitor at Port Barre, he decided to go back to school. "I would come to work at like 5 in the morning and leave at 7 and go to school all day and then come back and finish up my eight hours of work here and then go home and do homework," Sonnier told KATC.
He earned his bachelor's degree, and in 2008, went from janitor to teacher at Port Barre Elementary, according to the Advocate. He later earned a master's degree in education through Arkansas State University.
Last November, he was made Port Barre Elementary's principal, KATC reported.
That goes to show the power of education and Good work ethic! All things are possible to them that believe. ~Mark 9:23

Get Up and Overcome

Charles Darwin wrote that its not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, it is the one that is most adaptable to change. The Bible says be transformed by the renewing of your mind. We have to be consistently studying, consistently growing, consistently getting better. As time and technology changes it's imperative that we update with it. Also, realize that gratitude and honor to God is the paradigm that gives fresh life beyond the dimension of time. We can't be bitter for the cards life handed us to start, but we can be over-comers. Gaining knowledge and wisdom is apart of growth and Living in the world. We receive enlightenment by Intentionally seeking it, or life teaches us the lessons we need to know from our mistakes.

It's up to us to use the power we've gained to make the most out of it...To Overcome. It's our job to take our worst circumstances and make our best selves out of them. What we've been given helps to shape who we are. Oneness with spirit is imperative. No offense to Charles Darwin, but the belief that we were created in a divine image and loved with infinite purpose is the most powerful, progressive thought of all. It trumps everything. So, If we believe we have the power and we see how everything lines up in our lives for good, because we love it. Why not overcome with the love we've been given?

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them. Therefore continue to be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Continue to upgrade and stay current, Continue to seek God in all the ways you can, And most of all use your power within you to overcome whatever stands before you, it's only gonna make you stronger in the end. Heaven and earth will pass away, but the word of God will never pass away. Those that endure til the end will be saved. Well, endurance comes from building strength. If we are going to build strength in anything, its up to us to take full advantage of our power to over come.

You Can Overcome All The Odds Against You!

10 Motivational Bible Verses

We wish all the best and a special Breath Of Life Daily thank you, to all the soldiers who defend or have served this country, and their families.

We are all soldiers for the Lord and we must stay motivated!  At all times we should be on guard, ready to proclaim the power that is within.  So, act like a Christian, think like a soldier. These top ten scriptures will help get your spirit lifted, your mind motivated, and your body up and ready to go.

As we engage in Memorial Day, as well as throughout the year, be empowered through knowing that God is on your side, and He has a word for your defense:

  • 1 John 5:14-15 -
And this is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.

  • 2 Timothy 1:7
For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline.

  • Matthew 5:14-16
"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. "Nor do men light a lamp, and put it under the peck-measure, but on the lampstand; and it gives light to all who are in the house. "Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

  • Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.

  • Matthew 17:20
And He said to them, "Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it shall move; and nothing shall be impossible to you.

  • Isaiah 40:29-31 -
He gives strength to the weary, And to him who lacks might He increases power. Though youths grow weary and tired, And vigorous young men stumble badly, Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary

  • Hebrews 12:11-13
All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness. Therefore, strengthen the hands that are weak and the knees that are feeble, and make straight paths for your feet, so that the limb which is lame may not be put out of joint, but rather be healed.

  • John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Jesus Christ is the ultimate soldier and His annointing is on you.

  • Colossians 3:23-24
Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men; knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.

  • Romans 5:3-4
And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope;
