A Byrd's Song

The free bird leaps
on the back of the wind
and floats downstream
till the current ends
and dips his wings
in the orange sun rays
and dares to claim the sky...
-Maya Angelou

I too, know why the cage bird sings .........
In her famous poem Maya Angelou strongly emphasizes the power of freedom. As we celebrate and honor the rich history of the first Americans acknowledging God, and giving thanks for a good harvest. It's imperative to look back on the history of America.  The the very purpose of the pilgrims  "leaving the nest" and setting out on their own was to have religious freedom. However, the more it grows the country  seems to be denouncing all liberation and harvest we've come to know. America famously has "mommy issues", but whose purpose are we reaching out to by taking God out of school, off the money, and making alternative lifestyles more and more acceptable?

Removing God from Education and the Economy is the main reason why there has been an Epic Fail in these two areas. When did America, the great dismiss the fact that because the foundation was built on God and moral values, that's the reason why they flourished?
5“‘He took some of the seed of your land and put it in fertile soil. He planted it like a willow by abundant water, 6and it sprouted and became a low, spreading vine. Its branches turned toward him, but its roots remained under it.
As we celebrate Thanksgiving "the day of the bird" It is we ourselves who have been proclaimed an Eagle;  the ruler of the sky, abundantly blessed and flying high. However, a good clue of  how far we've fallen is even  indicated by the now main theme of the holiday: A turkey! A bird who can't fly has become the international symbol of  all America's ethic and thriving capabilities. It's the easiest thing to hunt because it can't fly. Society has become bent on doing things the easy way. Our preference for easy, instead of effective has promoted the fall. It's time to get back up!

As we celebrate this thanksgiving, let's acknowledge the true reason we give thanks; The abundance that God gives us on a daily basis, and the religious right this country was built on- to live an excellent life by praising God with all freedom.

Happy Thanksgiving!
